BLUE HENRY 1981-2004
Blue Peter x Knockaverha Pride (Pride of Shaunlara)
Blue Henry was a superb example of heavyweight with quality. An excellent straight free mover and a lovely quality head. Blue Henry showed depth of body with powerful limbs and natural elevation which made him very light on his feet. Combined with a wonderful temperament, he was an impressive sire of dressage and jumping stock as well as impeccably bred for R.I.D. breeders. Blue Henry, retired from competition, was extremely versatile competing regularly in affiliated dressage gaining 81 BD points and winning at medium level, showjumping (BSJA) and O.D.E. and in addition loved to hunt.
His stock is known throughout the globe for quality, performance and movement. He has produced prizewinning stock in showjumping, showing, dressage and cross-country.ie. He has two successful RID sons CRANNAGH HERO (standing on Ireland) and BLUE CHAMPION (standing in Devon). HAWKLANDS PRINCESS BLUE, outstanding Working Hunter at Wembley, Royal International and HIS Hunter show. ROMA BLUE WIND is another of his finest examples, a famous multi-champion RID mare both here in England and in Ireland. Pure-bred daughter KELSTON MADAM BUTTERFLY RID Champion Show Cob, and now following in his foot steps in dressage. (click on Henry's Diamonds below). He is also the sire of Coolraine Princess who is the dam of Champion Jumping mare Ado Annie by Errigal flight. Ado Annie has won six World Cup qualifiers and jumped in three World Cup Finals. Henry also sired the 2005 RID Supreme Champion Bramhope Dawn Chorus a purebred out of Glenside Beauty.
Blue Henry was homozygous (has a dominant gene (Gg) for grey) in his genetic makeup, which denotes that all of his sons and daughters, without fail, eventually turn some shade of grey, regardless of the colour the dam. These can range from steel or iron grey to beautiful dappled grey, silver grey, fleabitten or eventually totally white.
Blue Henry was the only son of Blue Peter (bottom left) in this country. His dam, Knockaverha Pride, was twice champion brood mare in Ireland and was by Pride of Shaunlara (bottom right). Blue Henry has passed the NaStA Performance Test.
We are very fortunate that Henry left us with his legacy, three pure-bred sons, 3 year old BLUE MAX and yearling colt foals Blue Horizon (full brother to Blue Max) and Last Orders who has recently been sold to the USA as a future foundation stallion. Blue Max is like a chip off the old block and has the same elevated extravagant paces, character and cheeky look in his eye that
was what endeared so many people to Henry. We hope to take him for grading in 2007. Blue Horizon also has these qualities but has a more athletic character. Both have a wonderful and kind temperament.
